Gun-Britt Zeller is an esteemed hairdresser with her own salon in central Copenhagen and  runs a popular line of haircare. She is also a close and long-time friend of Hanne Graumann. We met up with Gun-Britt in her unique Copenhagen apartment for a chat about her professional path, friendship and wardrobe favourites.

We are shooting today here in your apartment located right next to your salon. You and your husband moved in back in October 2024 and it already feels like a home. How do you make a home?

GB: I prioritise hanging art and getting a sense of ‘hygge’ quite quickly. So after just a day, all the moving boxes were unpacked. I also gave quite some thought to the decoration before moving in, which that made it all somewhat easier when I got the keys. And candles and fresh flowers make a significant difference as well.

There is a chess board on your dining table. Who are you playing with?

GB: I play with my 4-year old grandson August. Actually, he is teaching me to play chess, and it’s joyful.

Where do you spend most time in your home?

GB: In the kitchen. That’s where I watch the news and cook lots of food. Cooking is my way to kick back.

You and Hanne Graumann go way back. How did you meet?

GB: We met when Hanne was around the age of 16 or 17. She was one of the firsts apprentices in my salon. And she already become a very close friend at the time, despite the age gap between us. Our friendship means everything. Nothing is too small or too big to share.

Do you have a favourite from the SS25 collection?

GB: The new grey suit and the black one with a waistcoat. I believe it’s very cool and can be styled in many different ways.

What is your favourite memory from your career?

GB: The first time I went to the Sassoon Academy in London. That was incredible.

There is a tendency to celebrate and focus on success, but often it's the set-backs, failure or moments of doubt that are moments of growth. Can you share what you learned from such incidents?

GB: I've occasionally taken on advice that was at odds with my gut feeling and in the end it didn’t work out. That made me realise that I need to go with my intuition and lean into my own decisions.

You recently spoke on national morning TV about your drive and motivation to work, regardless of age and societal expectations. What are your thoughts on this?

GB: As long as you have fun doing it and you continue to learn. For me, the opportunity to keep developing makes it meaningful to go on. But everyone has their own path.

If you mentored a younger woman, what advice would you give to advance her career?

GB: Stay focused, work hard and be humble. And always remain true to yourself.

Where are you spending the summer holiday and what are you packing?

GB: In Tisvilde in our summer home. I always pack breezy dresses, sandals and lots of shirts from GRAUMANN as well as light-weight pants. And always a pair of jeans and good knit too.
